Datavant operates at the center of healthcare data—connecting, normalizing, and activating information across systems that don’t naturally speak to each other. As AI became table stakes across the category, saying “powered by AI” stopped carrying weight. The real question became: what is it actually doing?
They needed a way to answer that clearly, in an environment where attention is limited and every company is making similar claims. Something that could stop people, orient them quickly, and give them a usable mental model of how the platform works.
We approached it like an explainer, even without a traditional format. The goal was to give form to the system itself. The answer became the engine.
From the start, writing and motion developed together. The looping nature of the piece wasn’t just a format constraint—it became the structure everything was built around.
Each part of the animation took on a specific role within that system—intake, transformation, activation, output—so new ideas and feedback had to fit into the whole. Nothing lived on its own.
That structure made it easier to move quickly without losing direction. As the piece evolved, it stayed grounded in a clear internal logic—so the complexity didn’t get lost or diluted.
The result is a clearer way to show how Datavant’s platform works—something that holds up across contexts and can extend into future product and marketing storytelling.
